This lamp, like many other home products made in China, is a piece of crap. Do not be fooled by the exorbitant cost. You can easily find a $30 equivalent piece of junk in one of the big box home improvement stores.

I spent hours looking for a suitable reading lamp to fit in the corner of our living room, for anyone sitting in the chair there to have some additional light. Not being entirely thrilled with anything I saw in the stores in terms of style or functionality, I decided to look around on here. I compared sites, even looking at some of the higher-end design companies (some of the nicer stuff was $300-600), and I eventually came across this lamp on another site. They wanted $129 for this lamp. I am glad I did some more looking, because the apparent aesthetic and simplicity was pleasing, and surely it would be well constructed for such a cost. Amazon had it for about 20% less, so I was thrilled and ordered it.

When I removed this lamp from the box, I noticed something was rolling around inside. It was the nut and lockwasher that is supposed to hold the switch in the lamp itself. You see, someone did a absolutely horrible job of assembling, and the switch was wedged in the barrel crookedly. I tried readjusting it with pliers, but the service cord was jammed so tightly into the barrel that I feared I would break a solder joint or the switch itself. Naturally, the nut would not go back on the switch the way it was supposed to, so I had to turn it around to catch threads that weren’t stripped. So i had to put the fascia nut on backwards, and it looks stupid, but also instead of switching it up and down to turn it on and off, it is diagonal. I can’t wait to see how many people try to turn it on and can’t figure it out because switches naturally go up and down.

I also noticed that although the product is described as having an “oil rubbed bronze” finish, this is clearly just made up. This thing is distinctly black, and apparently spray paint at that. The finish itself is shotty. There are marks in the paint that look like someone brushed the drying pieces up against others, or smudged the paint with their fingers and tried to poorly cover it up. Like getting a chip in your vehicle paint and trying to cover it up with those little brush bottles of paint they used to give you with the car.

tl;dr version: this lamp is poorly assembled, the color is black, and it is excessively overpriced.

My suggestion: never buy anything made by Kenroy Home. It will just as likely be this crappy.
