i absolutely love this lamp. it’s very stylish and is made of very high quality and durable steel finish. it does in fact come with two of the necessary halogen bulbs, 180Watts a piece. the lamp arrives in four separate sections with the cord that attaches all of them running down the center of the tubes. beware that the contents are contained in styrofoam and it gets incredibly messy by the time you get everything unpacked. you don’t need any tools, you screw the sections of the lamp together with your hands, it’s very simple. the bulb is already on the lamp and they also give you a spare bulb as i stated earlier.

the 180Watt bulbs do not output nearly enough light for someone like me who is purchasing a halogen lamp specifically for some serious luminescence. the first thing you will want to do is get yourself a 300Watt, or in my case, a 500Watt halogen bulb (there is a difference in both heat output and brightness between the higher wattage bulbs, higher wattage bulbs are indeed much brighter, don’t let anyone tell you any different). this proves difficult, since the lamp, as all other halogen lamps i am aware of, comes with a circuit breaker attached to the lamp cord that automatically shuts the lamp off if the wattage is too high, this prevents you from using higher wattage bulbs in the lamp (180Watts is the max it will allow).

this is easily remedied however. all you need to do is unscrew the circuit breaker box (it’s attached to the lamp cord, can’t miss it), and clip the wires that are closest to the lamp. once you have clipped those wires, as close to the ends of the original wires as possible, then simply throw the circuit breaker box and the rest of the cord (the portion that contained the box and the head of the cord that plugs into the wall) in the trash. then go on amazon and purchase a lamp head male replacement plug (just the plug, not the wire) and a 3 foot long extension cord (indoor). simply connect the plug to the ends of the two wires still attached to the lamp, plug into extension cord (wire is too short without extension cord) and plug into the wall. put your higher voltage bulb in the lamp (requires a screw driver) and voila, you have a lamp with whatever wattage bulb you choose. i am using a 500Watt bulb for this lamp in my home.

the lamp comes with a ridiculous wire mesh screen that covers the top of the lamp (reduces fire risk, completely unnecessary since the lamp is 72″ high, nothing will come in contact with the top of the lamp with that kind of height). you’ll want to get rid of the screen cover since it decreases the light output and looks absolutely ridiculous. removing the top screen is easy, just one screw. however, the arm brace that the screen is attached to will still be on the lamp. if this bugs you like it did me, you’ll want to remove the arm brace. beware, the manufacturer made this extremely difficult to do (they do it on purpose for safety reasons).

you will have to take apart the assembly for the halogen bulb (after you carefully remove the bulb), then you will have to unscrew the two top screws on the assembly mount where the bulb is placed. this allows you to get to the large restraining bolt that is holding the idiotic looking arm brace for the mesh protector. once you have removed that large bolt on the hosing, you can remove the arm brace. this will require you to separate the two wires (two each) that are on the assembly where the halogen bulb is placed. they are held together by simple wire screws, just twist counterclockwise to pull them off, separate the wires, feed the wires down through the hole in the lamp so that you can get a socket wrench on the main large bolt holding the arm brace (don’t put the wires all the way through the hole, keep them outside the hole, but just enough to get the socket wrench on the bolt). once you remove the stupid brace, put everything back together (i took pictures with my cell phone at each step, so i didn’t forget how to put everything back together), and voila, the lamp looks beautiful, like a lamp should.
